The Five-Fold ministry is Christ’s gift to His Church for the equipping of the saints. It is not a hierarchy above the eldership. It is not a corporate structure that competes with the local body. It is the equipping pattern Christ Himself gave when He ascended.
The eldership’s task is to recognise what Christ has given, to weigh the fruit, to walk with the Saint through the recognition process set out in Part Four, to hold the gift and the office in proper distinction and proper integration as set out in Part Five, to discern with prayer and fasting whether the gift is to be sustained full-time, part-time, or voluntarily as set out in Part Six, and to maintain the accountability and structures that protect both the Saint and the body across years.
Where this is done faithfully, the body experiences what Ephesians 4:13 describes — “unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God… the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.” Where it is not, the body lacks what Christ intended to give it and what its mission requires.
The Lord is generous. He gives gifts to His Body. The local eldership’s call is to receive what He gives, recognise it humbly, release it joyfully, and watch the Body be built up to His praise.
Ephesians 4:15–16
“Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of Him who is the head, that is, Christ. From Him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.”
In brief.
- The Five-Fold are equipping gifts, given to prepare the Saints for works of service — not an office above the eldership.
- They are recognised by fruit observed over time, never by appointment or self-declaration.
- Most Five-Fold ministers are also elders, walking under the same accountability.
- A body rarely begins with all five. They emerge as the Lord gives them.
Where this leads. With elders shepherding and the Five-Fold equipping, the question becomes who decides what. Church Decision Allocation answers it, decision by decision.
Church, revive and rise. To God alone be the glory.
