In framework-aligned churches, the Five-Fold substantially overlap the Eldership; those gifted in these offices typically also walk in Elder office, and their contributions shape the Eldership’s discernment.

A note on standalone authority. The Five-Fold offices typically do not make standalone governance decisions. They speak into the Eldership’s discernment through their gift. Where a Five-Fold minister is also an Elder (the most common framework-aligned pattern), they contribute their gift from within the Eldership. Where a Five-Fold minister is operating itinerantly (visiting the church), their contribution is received and weighed by the Eldership.
Where this matters in practice. If a church has identified an apostolic minister, that minister’s voice on church-planting questions carries particular weight. If the church has a prophetic voice, that voice on direction-of-the-body questions carries particular weight. If the church has an evangelist, that voice on outreach posture carries particular weight. The framework asks the Eldership to recognise and honour these gifts, weighting their contributions appropriately on the matters their gift bears on.
