These four are the places the line most often blurs. In each, the work commonly assumed to be the pastor’s belongs elsewhere under the Sonrise structure.

WorshipThe pastor leads worship.A gift of helps exercised by the Saints — a separate ministry. The pastor preaches, prays and serves the ordinances within the gathering, but does not run worship.
Staff oversightThe pastor manages the staff.HR sits with the Church Manager. The pastor carries spiritual influence over character and fit, not the management.
Evangelism & missionThe pastor drives outreach.A ministry of the Saints. The pastor’s part is to teach on it and participate — not to own or run it.
Vision & directionThe pastor sets the vision.Christ is Head; the Spirit reveals direction through the Saints and eldership. The pastor guides the Saints to seek God for their callings; the annual plan carries the weight, on Saints and elders.
