These four are the places the line most often blurs. In each, the work commonly assumed to be the pastor’s belongs elsewhere under the Sonrise structure.
| Duty | Common assumption (Before) | Sonrise position (After) |
|---|---|---|
| Worship | The pastor leads worship. | A gift of helps exercised by the Saints — a separate ministry. The pastor preaches, prays and serves the ordinances within the gathering, but does not run worship. |
| Staff oversight | The pastor manages the staff. | HR sits with the Church Manager. The pastor carries spiritual influence over character and fit, not the management. |
| Evangelism & mission | The pastor drives outreach. | A ministry of the Saints. The pastor’s part is to teach on it and participate — not to own or run it. |
| Vision & direction | The pastor sets the vision. | Christ is Head; the Spirit reveals direction through the Saints and eldership. The pastor guides the Saints to seek God for their callings; the annual plan carries the weight, on Saints and elders. |
